Pal Coup Tasks

 

Tasks do not need to be done in order: 

 

1.  Learn and recite Indian Guide aims at tribal meeting. (A must for advancement to Brave.)

2.  Go fishing with your Dad; catch and land one (1) freshwater fish.

Bring a picture or drawing of the fish to your next meeting. Tell what kind it is and what you caught it with.

4.  Take a 30 minute walk around your neighborhood or park and tell of something new you never noticed before.

5.     Take a 1 mile hike with Dad at a camp-out and stop and be silent for 1 minute and tell what sounds or smells

     you liked at this place.

6.  Make an Indian craft from scratch (no kits) and share it with your tribe.

7.  Carve or whittle something out of wood. Share it with your tribe and display it on your Pal Coup Lance.

8.  Make a rock collection out of at least 10 rocks and be able to tell what they are.

9.  Tie 4 knots and know what they could be used for.

10. Gather 5 different types of leaves and tell what kind they are.

11. Make an Indian belt or bead necklace from a kit or scratch.

12. Tell an Indian story using at least 8 Indian drawings.

13.Get a book about Indian lore and read it with your Dad and tell something to your tribe

     they probably didn't know.

14.Plant a seed and care for it until it grows to produce a fruit, vegetable or flower.

15. Build a campfire with your Dad and tell 3 safety tips for building fires.

16. Learn 6 Indian sign language signs.

17. Row a boat or canoe with Dad and tell your tribe where you went.

18. Identify 5 edible wild plants and 5 non-edible or poisonous ones.

19. Learn and demonstrate how to use a compass on a hike.

20.Give a report on your tribe and one other describing its lore, background and origin.

21.Tell what to do if you were lost in the woods or wilderness and if you got lost in a

     busy place like Disneyland or a shopping mall.

22. Learn to read and use a road map and trail map.

23.Swim 50 feet and tread water for 3 minutes.

24. Clean up your room and make your bed every day without missing for 2 weeks.

25. Learn to tell time on a dial clock and convert it to the 24-hour clock. Give 3 examples

      of daytime and three at night.

26. Make a model of an Indian village.

       27. Make a useful present for Mom or Dad and give it to them for Christmas, birthday or

             Father's/Mother's Day.

28. Ride a horse on a trail for one hour.

29. Empty all the trash cans in the house outside, every day, for 2 weeks.

30. Plan and take your family on a bike ride of at least 3 miles.

31. Take pictures and assemble a scrapbook of a nation outing or camp-out.

32. Cook dinner over an open campfire and eat it.

33. Make cookies or cupcakes for a tribal meeting snack.

34. Go to a professional sporting event with Dad and report on the game, final score, and

             your favorite players.

35. Give 5 safety tips at home, at the pool, and about medicine.

36. Tell about 3 energy saving devices used at home and 3 ways you can personally save

     energy.

37. Visit an exhibit about Indian lore (like Bower's Museum in Santa Ana) and tell about 5

      interesting things you learned.

38. Know your home address and phone number and give the major cross streets near your

      house.

39. Be able to say the Pledge of Allegiance and sing the Star Spangled Banner.

40. Tell all the major food groups and give an example of a food from each.

41. Tell one thing that the Indians used the following animals for and draw the Indian sign 

      for each of them. 1. Fox 2. Bear 3. Buffalo 4. Horse 5. Deer

42. Set up and take down a tent at a camp-out and unroll and roll up your sleeping bag.

      Spend the night outdoors under the eyes of the Great Spirit.

43. Learn one Indian sport and be able to demonstrate it. Tell of any equipment needed by

      the Indians to play it.

44. Collect aluminum cans, glass bottles, and other recyclable and take them to a recycling

      center. Treat your Dad to an ice cream with the money you earned from this.

45. Draw or obtain a picture of the American flag. Tell your tribe how many stars and

      stripes are on the flag and what they represent.

46. Tell three (3) safety rules to always follow when riding a bike and riding in a car.

47. Be able to boil a had boiled egg on a campfire. Draw a picture of someone cooking on

      an open fire.

48. Tell and locate three (3) major landmarks in your community and be able to locate your

      city on a map.

49. Know the names of the following persons. (A must for graduation) 1. Chief of your

      tribe. 2. Chief of your nation. 3. Principal of your school. 4. Mayor of your city.

     5. Governor of your state. 6 Vice President of the United States. 7. President of the

     United States. 8. Most important person in your life. (Hint: One answer is Mom and

     Dad!)

50. Learn the official Indian Guides song "Pals Forever" and sing it at a tribal meeting.

51. Name three animals, birds or fish from the following regions and describe the creatures

      and tell some simple facts about their eating and living habits:

1.      North America 2. South America 3. Arctic 4. Antarctic 5. Africa

52. Describe safety measures to be taken with plastic bags and proper use of a sharp knife

             or pocket knife.                                                                         

53. Take a two (2) mile hike with your big brave and adequately mark the trail for your

      safe return.

54. Find four (4) ways to find out about current events and report to your tribe about two

      (2) of them.

55. Be able to show where the following cities are located in the United States:

            1. Chicago 2. New York City 3. New Orleans 4. Denver 5. Orlando 6. Seattle

56. Be able to show where the following cities or countries are located on a globe or world

      map: l. France 2. Hong Kong 3. New Zealand 4. Tahiti 5. Greenland 6. Capetown

57. Tell about three (3) important Presidents the United States and what was the greatest

      thing they did to make our nation great.

58. Name our nations capital and tell about five (5) famous things found there.

59. Visit a large museum and tell what three (3) things you liked best there.

60.  Attend a nation longhouse with your Dad and tribal chief and report back to your tribe

     about any news discussed important to your tribe.
