September 2006 Wahonka from the Shawnee, The Shawnee had a great time at the Catalina campout and want to thank Martin and the Mighty Mohican for a job very well done. We also want to send a special thanks to Brad, Dave and the many others who made last year a great year for all our girls and the program. We also welcome Barry, Chris and any other new longhouse members that will continue to make our nation strong and tons of fun. Now enough about the nation, and lets talk about the Shawnee. We started off the trip with Little Pink Flower asking if she ever gets sea sick. Of course her father responds with not a chance as her face starts to turn green. By the time we arrived at Two Harbors we had one princess tossing a liquefied bag of M&N’s out the window. After a quick departure off the boat we felt great and got started on a huge weekend. We set up our tents and started drawing topographic maps of the area to make sure that our annual victory of the water balloon contest was assured. Sarah, our YMCA rep was camping in our area but quickly realized that she needed to move her tent. I am not sure if that was due to the fact she forgot her rain fly or that we had filled 1,642 water balloons by 6pm on Friday. Either way we waved goodbye to Sarah and added her tent site to the topographic map as a new launch site. By noon on Saturday the water balloon and squirt gun contest started and the Mighty Cheyenne joined forces with the Shawnee and by 1pm we had complete and utter control of Two Harbors. Our friends the Sioux made attempts to take over but they had little to no effect on our control of the island; nor the airspace above it. So we are flattered to accept the water balloon award of excellence for the 93rd year in a row; or something like that. Next was fishing and we had several girls who decided to join in this year and had a great time. Thanks to Kerry for his patience and equipment over the weekend and giving the gift of fishing to our tribe. We ran a very tight Kayak race against the Navajo and hope they enjoy the paddle for the last year they will have it. After this year it will find it’s new home in the Shawnee trophy case, which is about 50’ tall and 1 mile long. We also celebrated Erin’s 9th Birthday after our campfire and spent the evening with our close friends the Mighty Cheyenne. The Shawnee are going to focus on making new friends amongst our great nation at each campout, and work hard on our aims. I look forward to a great year with all of you and your families. The Proud and Victorious Shawnee Chief Big Pink Flower P.S. If you did not get the chance please make sure to take a look at Gary Qualls new tent this year. The tent came with a support team larger then the entire staff at Direct TV and Gary went with the Bluegrass live turf option for the interior flooring. After the first night he found an ant in his tent and had to clear out all the furniture and brought in a fumigation team and Orkin for pest control. He was a bit concerned that his tribe would poke fun at him for going over the top and looking like he was headed to Greenland for a year rather then Catalina for a weekend. Well you were right!!!
May 2006 Wahooka GHV! Fiesta Island Summary The Shawnee want to thank the mighty Sioux for a great campout at Fiesta Island. A special thanks to John Ely, chief of the Sioux, for taking charge and doing an excellent job. As a side note John; the Shawnee tribe voted and we will allow you (just you) to apply to become a member of the Shawnee. It's no secret you have wanted to join and you're not there yet, but you did such a good job with Fiesta Island that you will be considered. Our girls started Saturday off with a little sailing. Jevon, our resident waterman; took the girls out for a quick sail around the bay. Jevon not only did a great job, but did it with half the boat under water and executed a perfect landing. The Shawnee learned to never allow hotel staff to ready your craft before sailing and Jevon gets to spend some quality time with his local chiropractor.
The next order of business was the water gun fight. The Sioux had taken the Shawnee water balloons at the Catalina camp out and we needed a better line of defense for this year and created the Shawnee water cannon defense squad. This is a highly trained team of girls that utilize state of the art water cannon equipment to defend the Shawnee campsite. Notice that the Shawnee use a water cannon versus the more traditional water pistol or super soaker. For those of you who are not aware of the difference between a water cannon or water pistol just e-mail Little Pink Flower your home address and she will come by your house for a demo. Trust me, it will only take one demo to know the difference.
Our fearless Medicine Man; Dave took every challenge the girls could dish out in style. He defended his title of being nearly impossible to beat and will be spending numerous hours at the local HB chiropractor that Jevon is currently seeing. I just want to warn Dave that the Shawnee girls will be taking a new approach at the next camp out. Beware and be afraid. Our traditional camp fire was a not to be missed event with our Nation Chief Brad Spell building a fire second to none. The lighting of the camp fire could be seen from outer space and our national defense system picked up the flare and set out a squad of F-16 fighter jets to investigate. But when you have a world class event the camp fire needs to be a memorial event and it was.
The Shawnee want to say thanks for all the hard work from the Sioux and the nation and look forward to soaking you all at our next camp out. And remember; not everyone can be part of the Shawnee tribe, so keep trying and one day we may let you in.

Square Dance
Summary
The Shawnee sponsored Square
Dance in March was another epic
event for the Great Huntington
Valley. An estimated 100 dosi
doers were on hand to dance and
dine. That's right, the same
tribe that brought us the
Shawneetoes (eg. burritos)
brought us grilled hot dogs and
flautas too. Thanks to the
Shawnee Feed Corps for making
that happen with a special
thanks to Andy Moore. We
will be delivering your family
photos to commemorate the
event
at the next long house meeting,
so ask your chiefs about your
photos. Thanks to
everyone for making this
a special night for the girls.
Looking forward to seeing our
fellow Shawnee at the Fiesta
Island camping trip the weekend
of April 21st!

December 2005 Wahoka GHV! November the Spirited Shawnee visited Brewbakers to make root beer and pretzels (see photos). The girls enjoyed learning how to make the root beer and rolling the keg outside to mix it all up before going back in for bottling. Then of course they drank tons of root beer to load up on sugar, inhaled a couple of pieces of pizza and got down to business. That being sitting out side and talking about all kinds of top secrete Shawnee stuff that you would have to ask them about. At the end of the night we were all full of pizza, pretzels and root beer and ready for our the next event. Kol Grooters Big Pink Flower

Wahoka GHV!
The Shawnee had a good month in October and here are a couple of highlights:
At the induction picnic we fed the masses one Shawneeto at a time and took our delectable cuisine on the road for those who could not make it to us. And for the first time in history we ran out of food. Next year we will bring more food and keep the legend of the Shawneeto alive and well.
We also were very happy to bring in 3 new families to the Shawnee Tribe. They are Darin and Alexandra Lee, John Yezeski and Lily Tobin, and finally Steve and Annalise Fox

I am happy to report that the Catalina trip was tons of fun and the Shawnee had a great time.
Things started off pretty low key but soon we were into a major water balloon war. With several well placed balloons in a tent cabin, and a good soaking from our girls we proved to be a force to reckon with and had lots of very excited youth in our campsite. We didn't win the canoe race this time but I think everyone knows the Shawnee mean business when it comes to a race with paddles.
Our skit that evening was going to be; "The Three bears and Two elephants"' but was a bit loose so was scrapped the skit and as a tribe we challenged the Medicine man to a group Hula-Hoop contest and gave him a good run for his money. He didn't beat any of the girls but did a good job.
Then it was time to pass on the Spirit award and the Hopi were the tribe the won the award. However your chief Big Pink Flower left that award in the back of his car in Newport so the Hopi had to wait a bit longer to get the award. We were thinking it may be a good way to build the Shawnee museum, earn an award and just keep it forever. But the Hopi did get the Spirit Award at the Long House meeting and we wanted to say sorry for the delay and congratulations!!!!
We have lots of events going on in the near future so be sure to check your updated event calendar. Also I want to be able to hold a Dad's meeting soon. I have patches to give out from the 4th of July, Andy I have your nation patches and we have the large nation event coming up next month that we need to plan for. So watch for a meeting date coming up soon.

June 2005
Wahoka to all members of the Great Hunting Valley
The Shawnee have been very busy during the months of May and June and have seen great changes. First, we want to welcome our new Chief and Head Princess Kol and Maya Grooters and to thank our new Sachem Casey Wian and his daughter Haley for their great leadership.
May started with our great nation campout at Camp Got Some Rules in Cabillo Beach. The girls had a fantastic time and thanks to the Sioux for all their hard work. The highlights of the weekend included the Nation Games and the hula dancers, but the best event was the campfire when the SHAWNEE WERE AWARDED THE NATION SPIRIT AWARD! We really are the SPIRITED SHAWNEE.
We followed Spring Camp with the First Inaugural GHV Golf Classic at Meadowlark. Behind the powerful swing of Casey Wian, the precision putting of John Stinson, a little help from our ringer Ken and the some back up by Steve Burke, the Shawnee Braves dominated the rest of the field bringing home the First Place Trophy!
Spirit Award…First Place Trophy….the Spirited Shawnee had a great May!
June has come with a terrific pool party at the teepee of the Bob and Lauren Anderson. This event has always been the highlight of the Shawnee spring. We are now looking forward the Graduation Banquet where we will honor our graduating Princess’ Haley Wian and Risa Burke.
Until next month.

GREETINGS, Great Warriors and Princesses!
Last month, the Mighty Shawnee went to Pump it Up, the Jumpee and Slide party zone for Princesses. With a full attendance of the Mighty Shawnee Princesses, the Great Hunting Valley would be proud of its girls and their great behavior.
The Shawnee Braves even joined in and attempted some of the slides, but were slowed down by their expanding waistlines from all the great food at Winter Camp. Despite this, a great time was had by all.
The Pinewood Derby produced several medals from new tribe members and alumni. Several Shawnee Princesses showed off their fine pinewood cars for fastest car, most stylish, and most original designs. Once again, the YMCA delivered its traditional fine dining at this event, with our Nation Chief acting as Head Chef! Nice job on the eats, O Great Hot Dog.
That’s all for February,
Noonway!!!!

Wahoka and Happy New Year from the Spirited Shawnee!
The Shawnee have had many great adventures and are proud to welcome many new braves and princess’ with great spirit.
Our first great adventure was a proud showing at bowling. Our princess’ showed great form and our braves showed why we are not on the tour.
Many thanks to the Hadley’s, Jevon and Isabel, for opening their teepee for a spirited evening watching the Newport Boat Parade. This was a chance to enjoy the spirit of the holidays. Next comes the Winter Camp with lots of snow!
Noonway,
The Spirited Shawnee
