January 2006 Wahoka! The Mighty Kaw were busy through the Holiday Season. Our last outing was the Annual Walk the Tree at Fashion Island. The 110 tree was just as spectacular as we remembered from last year. As usual, the girls climbed on the presents, ran around giddy in the expectation of the coming Holiday. As is custom at this event, we all walked the lights down to the ice cream parlor. There, we picked our favorite flavor and sat around the fountain, throwing coins in, making wishes for the perfect present. Just before the Holiday, there was a yell for help from the YMCA. A family was in need. The Kaw spearheaded a fund drive to raise money for this family. A Father, Mother and 6 children needed help. The Mighty Great Hunting Valley responded in force. We were able to raise in excess of $800.00. Armed with the cash, the purchases were made. Bicycles, Computer Printers, Pots & Pans, Bed Spreads, Weight Sets and more. One of the Kaw Squaws was kind enough to wrap all the gifts. On Christmas Eve, Several Kaw families drove the gifts over and presented them to the family. They were overwhelmed and extremely grateful. It was a rewarding experience for all, especially the girls. Our next meeting was held at the Coleman Teepee. Home of Big Wing and Red Wing. As we worked our way around the room, the girls gave their most spirited scouting reports. Since this was after the holiday, many stories were of a bearded fellow in a red suit bearing a bag full of goodies. After the scouting reports and an exchange of wampum, all the girls started creating masterpieces. The crafts were wooden, flower shaped picture frames. Perfect for a father/daughter portrait. The Princesses finished the evening with chocolate brownies and juice while the Braves choked down a little fire water. Noonway, Roaring Thunder & Curly Rainbow

Our monthly meeting was held at Kent, Riley and Blair McGarrigle's tee pee. There were great stories and a great craft to go along with our yes you guessed it our great snack..
For our monthly outing we had a great field trip to the Gothard Fire Station. They explained to us how they risk their lives for us everyday. They let the girls go inside the ambulance. Showed them how the fire engine worked and explained all the features. We also got a tour of the fire house. There was even an old Kaw Chief that is residing at the Gothard station. The highlight of the trip is when they took the fire engine out and lit up all the lights and sirens. The firemen were very professional and left a great impression on our tribe. A big thank you to Gothard station fire house from all the Kaw.
