Nation Overview

Here you will find information about upcoming Great Hunting Valley nation events, nation officers and tribe chiefs, as well as the steps you and your daughter can take to reach various achievement levels in the Great Hunting Valley.

  • The tribe is the basic organizational unit for the Y-Indian Princess Program. The Great Hunting Valley currently consists of eight tribes, including the Cheyenne, Hakowi, Hopi, Kaw, Mohican, Navajo, Shawnee, and Sioux. One dad is selected as chief, and the various tribal offices are delegated to other fathers and daughters, including medicine man, wampum bear, etc.

  • Groups of tribes form the Great Hunting Valley Nation. The Longhouse is the Inter-Tribal Council organization that supports the program planning of the nation tribes. Council members are elected from tribal volunteers each year.

  • The Inter-Tribal Council coordinates nation events and establishes policies and standards. The Great Hunting Valley Nation follows a fairly regular schedule and includes many local and some overnight activities. The three key events of the year are the Spring, Summer and Winter Nation Camp-outs.

  • Achievement Coups (good deeds) are, very simply, material rewards for young princesses for learning or doing something with their big braves (dads).  The requirements for the little princess to earn higher achievement levels are designed so that she will learn valuable lessons about the world around her with the help and guidance of her father.
