Frequently
Asked Questions
What are the YMCA Princesses?
The YMCA Indian Princess Program
is for kindergarten through fourth grade
girls and their fathers. This Father and
Daughter program was developed in a
deliberate way to support the father's vital
family role as teacher, counselor and friend
to his daughter. The slogan, "Friends
Always," means that father and daughter have
a close, enduring relationship in which
there is communication, understanding, and
companionship. Y-Princesses encourage such a
relationship by providing a means for father
and daughter to share enjoyable experiences,
to observe and learn about one another, and
to develop mutual respect.
What is the Great
Hunting Valley Nation?
Across the country the Y-Princess
programs are divided geographically into
various Nations which consist of several
tribes. The Great Hunting Valley Nation
serves the Southern most part of Huntington
Beach. There are approximately 120 children
involved in eight different tribes. A
child's choice of tribe is typically based
either on school area, pre-existing
relationships with other Y-Princesses, or
finding a tribe that shares the same
interests and activity level.
How much does it cost?
Registration requires a $90 annual Family
YMCA membership with the West County YMCA
along with a per person fee of $35. Each
program year runs from September 1st through
August 30th of the following year. There
are additional per event fees for monthly
nation activities which can range from $10
to $20 for local events and $60 to $140 for
three-day nation campouts.
How do we join?
Contact the West
County YMCA at (714) 847-9622. At the
time you join, you will also be able to
select the tribe you wish to join. They can
also assist you if you need help in selecting a
tribe that operates in your area.
Can we participate in an event before we
join?
Absolutely. In fact, we encourage it. Just
check out the event calendar on this site
for upcoming events and contact the YMCA
office above to let them know which event
you would like to attend. We’re positive
that once you and your daughter experience
the Y-Princess program in person, you’ll be
hooked.
