Nation Office Positions
Detailed Info on
each Position
SACHEM
- Supports new Chief in running of the nation. Helps fledgling tribes
become more robust.
NATION
CHIEF - Leads nation council meetings and attends
federation council meetings. Leads nation events as MC. Works with YMCA
on improvements for the program. Coordinates with host tribes and YMCA
to make sure all necessary items are taken care of so nation events
happen.
WAR CHIEF
- Works with nation council, federation council, and YMCA on preparing
event calendar for the year in which war chief will be chief. Also
assists current chief on running council meetings and organizing events
where necessary.
MEDICINE MAN
- Opens and closes nation meetings and events. Leads nation in quest
for attainment of Y-Guides aims. Promotes teamwork and spirit among the
nation. Performs medicine man challenges.
WAMPUM BEARER
- Manages GCN finances. Works with YMCA to reconcile YMCA ledger of GCN
finances. Responsible for check and balance of YMCA ledger for GCN.
FIREKEEPER
- Keeps fire materials. Prepares nation event fire and keeps fire
burning during event as required. Works with YMCA, host tribes, and
event locations for necessary permits as required.
BEAD &
FEATHER MERCHANT - Procures and distributes feathers
for Lance Award/PAL Coup program. Procures patches for host tribes for
nation events. Procures nation T-shirts. Procures awards for nation
competitive events. Makes sure each tribe hosting an event has submitted
artwork for patches at least 6 weeks in advance of the event.
WEB WEAVER
- With the YMCA, maintains GCN website (links, photos, agendas,
rosters). Makes global announcements to all GCN participants of upcoming
events. Works with YMCA and tribal chiefs to maintain accuracy of YMCA
roster for each tribe. Makes sure each tribe hosting an event has
submitted the event agenda at least 4 weeks in advance of the event.
SCOUT
- Works with YMCA, nation, and tribes to identify, coordinate, and lead
recruitment efforts and events around the city, at schools and other
events. Works to create and distribute banners and flyers. Works with
YMCA to coordinate pancake breakfast. Works with YMCA to get exposure in
newspapers, television, whatever, to generate exposure and therefore
membership. Works with B&F on nation T-shirts. Works with nation on
"wear-your-Y-Guides-shirt-to-school-days". Works with other leagues
(baseball, soccer, boy scouts, etc) to facilitate booths and tables
during other events for recruitment.
