Fright Nights

at El Potrero
October 19-21, 2007

Hosted by the Quechualla Tribe

Cost:

$34/dad + $1/daughter
Registration cut-off date is October 12th.  Sign up now!  (Link below)

Directions:

El Potrero Campground
Drive East on the Ortega Highway. Nearest landmarks to the El Potrero turnoff are the Candy Store and the Ortega Oaks campground. Slow down when you come to these two landmarks because your turnoff is just a few hundred yards farther down the Ortega Highway. Past a clump of trees and over a small bridge there is a right turn onto a dirt road. There is a large rack of mailboxes and two gates. Take the gate to the right. The Ortega Oaks campground and stables will be on the right side of this dirt road. The road forks in a few places, but always take the fork to the right. There are several "No Trespassing" signs, but they don't apply to us. The campground is about three miles on the dirt road from the Ortega Highway turnoff. There is a heavy metal gate at the entrance to the campground that may be closed but not locked.

Activities:

Check in: Friday 4:00 pm.    Check out: Sunday 12:00 noon.

Friday - Spooky Songs from Keith! (8pm).

Saturday - Most of the day is free time for individual or tribe activities: hiking, exploring, animal tracking, achievement activities, etc.  There is a trail that leads to a (sometimes dry) creek with short waterfalls and a wading area.

First Annual Father/Daughter Bocce Ball Tournament. Signup at 11am.

Also, each Princess should carve or decorate a pumpkin with her Dad.  Bring your own pumpkin and battery-powered lights or glow sticks in case candles are not allowed.  Pumpkin judging will begin at 6:00 pm on Saturday.

Saturday Evening - 7:00: Nation Campfire - roll call, skits, songs, recognitions.  Trick-or-Treating immediately after campfire.

Sunday Morning - 9:00: Chapel under the trees and Pumpkin Awards. Check out at noon.

Bring: Usual camping stuff: Tents, sleeping bags, food, camp stoves, etc.

Each tribe to bring extra bundle of wood for the Nation Campfire Saturday night.

Each girl needs a pumpkin, and something to light it up with.

Candy for Trick-or-Treat (about 90 girls' worth) on Saturday evening after campfire when the tribes will walk around reviewing each other's Pumpkin handiwork. Girls can wear (simple/safe) costumes if desired, and should have a bag for candy.

Each tribe should bring an award to submit for the pumpkin carving contest. Award should be hand-made by the tribe, of solid construction, and of sufficient quality for proud presentation by the nation chief.  (Writing, if any, should only specify "Pumpkin Carving, El Potrero, 2007".)

Other Info:

Make sure to bring spooky decorations for your campground!

The campground is huge and wide open, perfect for kite flying, field games, and lots more.

It's also somewhat rustic -- if you have a folding table, you might want to bring it.

Real toilets in rustic buildings, with outdoor running-water sinks.

Fire rings are scarce -- if you have a portable one, bring it.

We'll be camping at about 4,000' elevation, so expect warm days and cool nights -- bring jackets.
